Begin with the original adventure
Start with Dragon Ball. It is lighter, funnier, and more adventure-focused than its later successors, but it gives Goku, Bulma, Krillin, and the world its foundation. Skipping it removes the context behind many long-running relationships.
Move into Dragon Ball Z
Dragon Ball Z raises the scale with alien history, transformations, and world-threatening conflicts. Its major sagas work best in order because rivalries and training pay off over long stretches. Dragon Ball Kai is a streamlined alternative for viewers who prefer a faster pace.
Continue with Super
Watch Dragon Ball Super after Z. It broadens the universe, gives Vegeta additional development, and introduces new tournament and god-level conflicts. Films can be fitted around release order, but the television series remains the easiest backbone.
What to watch after
Try One-Punch Man for a playful response to unstoppable power, My Hero Academia for public hero rankings and training, or One Piece for another enormous world built around adventure and found family.

For most newcomers, release-family order is easier than constructing a strict fictional timeline. Original Dragon Ball explains why Goku's relationships with Bulma, Krillin, Piccolo, and the martial-arts community matter. Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Z Kai?
Both cover the central Z-era story. Kai removes much of the extended pacing and presents a more concise route, while Z preserves the original television rhythm, soundtrack choices by release, and anime-only material. Pick one; watching both is optional.
